What the Soviet Union knew was that America fighting the Cold War internationally would eventually lead to America fighting the Cold War domestically. That defending oneself against external enemies would eventually lead to defending oneself against internal enemies. That once the external enemy collapsed, all of that fear, paranoia, and extremism would be displaced onto an enemy closer to home. That in the land of the free and the home of the brave, there were those who were brave who didn’t want to be free, and who in their hearts wanted socialism in America, and would die and kill to make that a reality.

The tragedy was that both sides underestimated each other. The socialists viewed the capitalists with contempt and felt that they wouldn’t have the guts to fight because they worshipped the Almighty dollar. The capitalists looked at the socialists’ hatred of Christianity and atheism and thought that there were no atheists in foxholes, and that the other side wouldn’t fight. The tragedy was that both sides were the bravest men on Earth, men who could face down the ghastly instruments of modern warfare and the specter of death for a cause which they believed in. Men who had crossed oceans, defeated empires, created the greatest nation on Earth, and achieved what those of the ages before would stagger in disbelief as works of a supernatural God…

They felt in their hearts that the true enemy was their fellow countrymen. That when the enemy within was exterminated and rendered prostrate, that their utopia would be at last be theirs. That their vision of America’s future was right, and that anyone who disagreed was their mortal enemy, who eventually would need to be dealt with, and destroyed by any means necessary. That the third world war was indeed to be an event where annihilation of civilization would occur, but that it would be not a world war, but a civil war, a war in which millions died, and the dreams of a nation forever perished, for those who were left living had nothing to live for, and those who died did so for an illusion. That man’s quest for perfection and a heaven on Earth led to a reality of Hell.

The only legitimate function of government is to care for its populace. Once it turns its “limited government” head towards benign neglect, it loses credibility. The only salient point your response engendered is that this article was intended as lampoon. I worked for 40 years, I paid faithfully for my “entitlements” and I am not a socialist (for the most part). What you are, my erstwhile friend, is a corporate apologist awaiting fervently the holy religious event of the trickle. Good luck with that.

I’m guessing you’ve never had a real job. I’m guessing you are a cardholding member of the intelligentsia elite. The kind of person who thinks they know better than the “corpulent” denizens of flyover country. If you really see the world like this, I feel sorry for you. It is easy to lampoon someone who you have never even listened to, but it certainly puts the lie to your self satisfied world view.

The entitlement happy culture of Washington has killed the soul of this country. Socialism has spawned a generation (my generation by the way) of wastrels. As I struggle to support my family, I wish you well in your carefree nonexistence.

Almost 50% of all Americans want to know where this strange man came from and if he’s qualified to be the POTUS. It is inconceivable that 0% of our congresscritters don’t have the same questions. Thank God a few of them are brave enough to ask the questions even if they can’t bring actual action.

They have raised a paltry amount of capital to support their campaigns, and their threat to end Social Security and Medicare as we know it is only adding more seasoned wood to the funeral pyre of the party. They have been labeled terrorists and extortionists by much of the population. At this point, the deceased Bin Laden has a better change of being elected than a Republican.

I love that you “misunderestimate” President Obama! I think that I could beat the bevy of hypocrites currently pursuing the Republican nomination. Every cultural deviance, end Medicare speech, bill to send taxpayer money to the oil barons, refusal to regulate the Wall Street greed cartel and refusal to increase dramatically the taxes on millionaires would be a free ad for me. How many semi serious students of political gimmickry can not see that George W. Bush, the lessor, ripped budget surpluses from the mouths of Americans everywhere, leaving a burnt trail of economic ruin. Obama didn’t do any of these things. His legacy will be that he worked like hell to clean up the Republican devastation and sordid attacks on the middle class. Finally, Sarah Palin, as the author notes, is a pathological liar answerable only to the autocratic buffoons that support her.

Every time someone buys groceries, pays a utility bill, cashes their Social Security check, eats macaroni & cheese instead of meat and can’t buy their kids new clothes, they’d compare me to Mr. Obama. no matter how much we pay them it is never enough.
Almost every year, school tax goes up. Teachers are
already making over $60,000 – a lot more than an
average people make. Still not enough for them. They
want salary hike or they strike.

My own personal thoughts (no one but me) is that most everyone, whether your Christian, Atheists, Agnostics, religious or non-religious, think they are right and they want everyone else to believe their view. I think it is like the PTA (parent teachers association) they want to control.

The Professor Nyborg studies, while interesting, never published the tests they used or the grading methods. The tests are described as “religious intelligence tests” not standard accepted testing methods. While it is an interesting finding, the results are dubious to say the least. The repeat of that study was done using the same unpublished tests and by the same person.

The same person who said poor people should be paid to not have kids. I guess he learned nothing from Germany and WWII. So much for his intelligence or at least his memory.

An interesting finding, yes. Conclusive, not in the slightest. Although everyone that feels the need to slam religion based on the existence of a god will no doubt grab on to it. Those that have the religion of evolution will be the ones slamming. Interesting how all of those followers of Atheism are after ever other religion but fail to see their own beliefs as such.
